The Village began August 2024. It started as a weekend event when Taylor Swift was in Indianapolis for the last performance of the Eras Tour. It quickly grew from a simple activity to an event that’s consumed my other creative activities and energy. Simultaneously, I developed worsening health issues which makes completing this project quickly impossible.
So. When I feel exhausted, I will rest. But I won’t quit. Help with events and donations are always welcome! If an organization would like to adopt a panel and make pompoms for it, that would be fantastic.
In light of all things in the world right now, The Village is a necessity. It personifies joy, community, and inclusion. It houses something I will protect and steward. As I find more answers to these health issues, I will be finding my stride with this project. Right now, One event a week works well! Last year I was hosting 5-6 events a week, sometimes double booking days. I felt pulled to get this out as quickly as possible. I ignored my own eco-feminist understanding of network, balance, and deep communication–with myself and others. I didn’t acknowledge how much energy I was investing in this work in an isolated way.
The Village belongs to more than me. I’m the steward but without the community it’s nothing. Ivy Tech, Arts for Learning, the Harrison Center, Indianapolis Arts Council, Indianapolis Public Libraries, AMP, Cultural Hispo Indy, Bloom Senior Living, and Big Car (Tube Factory and Spark) are organizations that have been a huge part of The Village’s evolution. Many individuals have put work into The Village as well. Hundreds of people all over Indy have made pompoms and attached them to the panels. Cheryl, Gina, Kate, Cathy, and Patty have done latch hook work so viewers can see the composition from the back as well as the front. Cheryl and Khaila have spent hours attaching pompoms with library patrons. Jill scheduled library events and did promotional work for The Village for the entirety of last year. Shauta and Julie invited me to participate at Spark and supported The beginning of The Village. People have donated yarn, time, and most importantly joy and love for the past 18 months.
Thank you.
As 2026 unfolds, rest assured The Village will continue it’s slow, winding path to completion. Events at libraries and art centers will continue. New places are also getting integrated into the mix. Stay posted for more Village news!
As always–The Village is dedicated to the women of Indianapolis who keep art alive.
